The Glass House (Fictionville, 2009) is an amazing movie reveals what goes on at Omid-e-Mehr center in Tehran, Iran. Founded by Marjaneh Halati, Omid-e-Mehr, or “Hope for Kindness”, is a non-profit organization helping disadvantaged young women of Iran to get back on their feet and learn the right skills to independently function in the society. As painful as it may sound, this movie was not about the pain these young women go through, although the story evolves around their problems and challenges>>>

نزدیک به یک سال از دستگیری حسین درخشان میگذرد. ابتدای دستگیری اش در وبلاگشهر گرد و خاک زیادی به پا شد . بعضی او را خائن به ملت و بعضی او را پدر ملت و بعضی او را ناجی افسانه ای خواندند. من در دسامبر سال گذشته این مطلب را در مورد درخشان نوشتم. و امروز هم همان احساس را در مورد درخشان دارم. حسین درخشان نه انسان خوبی بود ، و نه دوست خوبی برای انسانهایی که به او اعتماد کردند. ولی حسین درخشان یک انسان است. و یک انسان حتی اگر بد کند و بدی کند و حتی اگر مثل حسین درخشان باشد ، باید از حقوق انسانی اش دفاع کرد.

We may think this kind of protest is new in Iran, but Iranian mothers have always spoken out against violence, disappearance and the torture of their sons and daughters. Prior to the 1979 revolution, only two mothers’ organizations existed in the country. Both were affiliated with underground groups involved in struggles for democracy. They worked in opposition to the monarchy of the Shah’s regime, who’s policies had turned, at the end, to the jailing and torture of intellectuals, feminists, students, and labour union advocates>>>

About 40 years ago as the feminism around the world raised to a visible phenomenon, a heated dialogue came up with a question posed as, what is it that the feminist are eagerly going after? Answering some difficult questions such as, if the justice equates to equality for women’s right, or women are equal to men, was set to the top of feminists’ agenda. Is happiness the key? We should know by now that changes and advancements in our lives are motivated by an underlying and mysterious physiological effect in our body and soul called happiness>>>

I was one of the thousands of protestors who gathered in front of the United Nations on September 23 to say NO to Ahmadinejad and yes to democracy in Iran. We were not 400 people as CNN claimed. There were thousands of us, from different groups that had gathered at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, from the Mojahedin and the royalists to the green movement supporting Mir Hossein Mousavi and Karroubi and independents like me, who came together or rather, appeared at different stages to show our support for a righteous cause, to support our people’s quest and struggle for democracy>>>

I want to argue that Iranian-Americans are mainly distancing themselves from Islam and in many cases leaving it as a coping strategy for dealing with the rise of Islamophobia and anti-Middle East sentiments in the United States. Iranian-Americans are dissociating themselves from Islam as a repositioning strategy to deal with the prejudices and suspicions which have been directed at them since 9/11. Feeling vulnerable and helpless, many Iranian-Americans have often unconsciously absorbed the fears and the sensibilities of their ordinary fellow Americans and the mainstream media about Islam and Moslems>>>

خدایا مهدی کروبی چه می دید و چه می شنوید؟ یا للعجب؛ کاش او زنده نبود و نمی دید که روزی در جمهوری اسلامی شهروندی نزد او بیاید و شکوه کند که در ساختمانی بی نام و نشان، توسط افرادی بی نام و نشان تر،هر عمل قبیح و غیر معمولی بر او صورت گرفته است: از لخت و عریان کردن افراد و نشاندن آنها در مقابل یکدیگر تا فحاشی های وقیحانه و ادرار کردن در صورت آنها و رها کردن چشم و دست بسته دختران و پسران در بیابان. اینها کم نبود که خبر از تجاوز به دختران و پسران در بازداشتگاهها نیز رسید. با خود گفتم که سه دهه پس از انقلاب و دو دهه پس از فوت امام به راستی ما به کجا رسیده ایم؟>>>

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is slated to make his annual visit to New York to address the UN on Sept. 23, 2009. If there ever were a time for us Iranian-Americans to come together to demonstrate to the world our outrage and contempt for his government, it is surely now. It is important that we do this especially because the movement to protest election fraud and civil rights abuse in Iran has been brutally suppressed. The reform movement in Iran is in shackles and behind bars. Armed with the Sepah, Basij and plain-clothes forces the Ahmadinejad government has arrested our leaders, intellectuals, activists and students. Many have been killed, tortured and raped>>>

I am sitting in a high school class. It’s the end of grade eleven and I can barely take it anymore. I feel I am suffocating. I want my freedom. Outside the walls of this school is where I thought my freedom would be. On this particular day, in a stuffy, windowless classroom, our religion teacher is discussing about Truth. The students around me seem to be listening partially, as if waiting for it all to come to an end. I am tired too, but something in the teacher’s sentences catches my attention, the word “Truth”>>>

بسیاری از شما را از نزدیک می شناسم و برخی را نیز دورادور. بگذارید در ابتدای کلام باور قلبی خود را بیان کنم که آنچه بر شما در دوران اسارت گذشته و می گذرد، چه در بند 209 زندان اوین و چه در سایر بازداشتگاهای بی نام و نشان در سرتاسر کشور، به یک اعتبار از همۀ جنایاتی که این نظام پس از انتخابات اخیر مرتکب شده، حتی از آزار های جسمی و جنسی و قتل خود سرانۀ انسانهای بیگناه نیز سنگین تر و ننگین تراست، چرا که عالماً و عامداً، در بلند مدت و با برنامه ریزی گسترده و مرکزی صورت پذیرفته است و جای حاشا هم ندارد>>>
