Last Family Photo Of A Shah in Exile: During his second exile, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi traveled from country to country seeking what he hoped would be temporary residence. First he flew to Assuan, Egypt, where he received a warm and gracious welcome from President Anwar El-Sadat. He later lived in Morocco as a guest of King Hassan II, as well as in the Bahamas, and in Cuernavaca, Mexico, near Mexico City, as a guest of José López Portillo. Richard Nixon, the former president, visited the Shah in summer 1979 in Mexico. died from complications of Waldenström's macroglobulinemia on 27 July 1980, aged 60.

ArvandRud

Arvand Rud Arvand Rud is the proper name of the "Shatt al Arab". Let's just say I would never sell out Iran to the mullahs or the communists.

Chi boodim o chi shodim.

I hope that the ''revolutionaries'' never forget what they did to our beautiful country.

But Iranians will one day regain their freedom and prosperity from the hands of this Ahrimani Republic and the leftists that brought it to power.

I agree with "chi boodim o chi shodim"

But I also believe we could be A LOT better than "chi boodim" as that wasn't mount to much. In reality a less-conservative version of what Saudis are today. A nation dependent on OIL and a puppet of the super power. A nation of few rich, some middle class and a lot of poor people. A nation that made cars but the only parts provided by Iran was the air in the tires and water in the radiators.

By the Way Bavafa, I do not think you are a "Beton head". But exponating a detail out of context to explain something very complex never works.

E.g. I cannot describe the complete Iranian System of the IRI and the living conditions in Iran by just pointing out to "they do not have ONE PROPER working nuclear plant" as many Iranians talk about The Time of the Shah.

E.g. I cannot describe the complete US-System and the living conditions in the US by just pointing out "they do not even have an allround working Health insurance System".

This is my Problem with Iranians.

ghourbagheh First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. -Gandhi

What? What's a "Beton head"? What does "exponate" mean? And what do your examples allude to? What is your problem with Iranians exactly?

More accurately, you seem to have a problem with Iranians who don't believe Iran under the Pahlavi dictatorship was the land of milk and honey, not that it is so under the IRI theocracy!

schamsi1

Schamsi1

Well I did not say Iran was a land of milk and honey...You are using these words first..Iranians like to exaggerate. When it is snowing 20 cm, they say: "2 metr barf umad !"
They always are absolutely inaccurate..."Hala ye tori 2 rost mishesh"
->How?? Explain??

Can you construct a car by being so inaccurate??
Germans can do this. Maybe they exaggerate sometimes. But they never say:" It will take us an hour from Cologne to the city of Düsseldorf!" They will say: " It will take us 25 Minutes..!"

Understand the difference?

So, if Iran was noit the land of milk and honey, THEN EXPLAIN!! You can e.g. proove, that all the numbers AMIRPARviz used below are just a mere lie. I dont have a problem with that, but please proove it. Sources of your arguments against milk and honey??

schamsi1

Schamsi1

Well sorry, my english is not good as a resident in Germany. With "Exponate" means "picking out " one thing.

MY problems with SOME Iranians is, that they paint everything black and white. I my self DO critisize the Pahlavi era, but for OTHER reasons. So i do not repeat things like SAVAK and so on, (what the west put in our head) but e.g. I until today do not understand, how the Shah could leave the country without organizing things MILITARILY to support e.g. Bakhtiar. The Shah, with all good aspects of his reign did not understand the AGGRESSIVE nature of the West. So why should I critisize him for SAVAK; Human rights abuse, "beeing wealthy , while every body in the west does the same, e.g. very often in our country by supporting Islamist?? But 100 times more...

Some Iranians do not use facts, the do use slogans and Ideology. But I have absolutely no problem to critisize anybody, of course even the Shah, why not? As long you use facts...

AND: When Iranian monarchists do not argue with facts, they also are Beton HEADS and they also work against the interests of iRAN. There is no difference between a hard core Monarchist, hard core Islamist and hARD cORE Communist and hard Core Democrat. NO DIFFERENCE.

I see myself am in the middle. I am supporting an IRANIAN System. It´s not about the Shah as a person. Why should we copy an aggressive System called Democracy, which bombards our people everyday and supports the IRI?

Well, when I Today look at GERMANY, I also believe it could be A LOT better than "Alman chi hast" as that wasn't mount to much.
A nation dependent on CHEAP (!!!) OIL (which it gets from the Near east, where the way for cheap oil is paved by its master) and dependant on EXPORT (which is supported by wage-dumping on it´s own soil and in foreign countries like Bangla Desh or Vietnam) and by breaking up the markets in Africa and Asia with neo-liberal methods and in the end by war)and that a puppet of the super power (NSA Scandal, Sanctions against russia (or better against german industry). A nation of growing number of upper class rich, a reduced (poor)middle class compared to the 70íes and a growing number of really poor people (Called HARTZ IV). A nation that is making cars but the only parts provided by Germany are parts of the motor, whereas the rest comes from China, Bulgaria rumania and so on.

And you have the non-german NSA reading and saving all your electronic mails, messages and so on. And germany cannot do a damn thing.

Well, when I look at the US, I also believe it could be A LOT better than "US chi hast" as that wasn't mount to much.
A nation dependent on CHEAP (!!!) OIL, which it gets from countries it bombards when they do not listen, where it makes the revolutions and coups, sends economic Hitmen around to get the cheap oil from them, a country, which is a puppet of the superrich Banks (Morgage - loan-depth crisis 2008) and Oil companies and a strong military-industrial complex power. A nation of growing number of Superrich, a reduced middle class compared to the 70íes and a growing number of poor people, who can buy everyday goods with credit cards (meaning Plastic cards !?!) form nations, which do not get anything for the produced goods, because the money does not exist. A nation that is hardly producing cars, even importing cars from foreign countries what produces depth around the world..

Three Questions:
->In 30 years somebody tells you: living in Germany and US was really bad in 2014, it could have been much better. CAN you answer clearly with ONE "Yes" or "No"?
->DO Iranians understand, that they compare Iran with THESE kind of systems, where development and peace is reached by producing suffer and wars in other parts
->but that there ARE alternatives for a better world, but that you have as a precondition to deal with these Systems

So, how can our "Beton - Brains" convince these "successfull" Systems (West) NOT to interfere in our Systems, when its getting better and NOT to support those, who act against the will of a nation....

If somebody compares Iran with "the" West, then Iranians have to CHANGE. They have to be prepared to go to war, occupying e.g. Iraq and stealing it´s oil, they have to be super criminal, produce loands and depth in the world, let other people in other countries let work and produce goods for Iran and Iranians have to have the Casino and Poker mentality to answer brutaly: We will pay that later, we Pay in Rial, which is supported and secured by Iranian military. If you dont believe us, then we will invade your country. Well yes, then Iran could be a great nation.

ghourbagheh

ghourbagheh First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. -Gandhi

Iranians have changed, but you're reading way too much into a comparison. In 2009, I was in Iran around the election. The younger generation of Iranians are amazingly well aware and much more pragmatic than the generation of 30 years ago. Most important of all, they don't want war or revolution. They want to erase IRI bit by bit. Iran of today could change over night. The only thing that keeps IRI going are external threats, perceived, exaggerated, or real! Nothing could have worked more to the benefits of IRI key players than these sanctions, which I suspect is exactly what US wants. US wants either a satrapy regime like the Pahlavi monkeys, or something like the IRI.

schamsi1

Schamsi1

Iranians do not have to love or hate the persons below, but just again read the facts:
->Mossadegh came with the "Sympathy" of the US, but then he, in the first months already said "NO" to the West->He had to go
->the Shah came with the "Sympathy" of the US, but then, after 25 years said "No" to the West->he Had to go

The others:
->Saddam Hussein said "No" to the West ->War, death, Execution.
->Ghaddafi even had not time to say "no" to the West->War, death, execution
->Assad was willing to say some "Yes" to the west->Sorry Mr. Assad, the West has other plans for Syria->war, death - still (!) no exection
->in the Ucraine tghe democratically elected Mr. Krawtschuk said "No, wait a minute!" to the west->war, death, well execution not needed. He fled.
->German industry said "No" to sanctions against russia: result? the US said: Sorry Germany, WE have won the second World war...Germany now says "Yes" to sanctions

So these are FACTS, if you do not BOW to the will of stronger "partners". But my fellow dreaming ideologic iranians, if elected as president of Iran, of course would change the mind of the oil companies. Because iranains are so cultivated and not naive...."Maman, man ham yek bastani bozorg wa khoshmaze mikham bokhoram! ...Akh jun! Mirim Fanfar!!! Maman...man nomreye khub gereftam, djaize migiram??? Maman jan...."

I will call Obama and Dave Cameron immediately to ask them not longer to intefere in Iran. For sure they will listen to me. "Oh yes of course President Ghurbaghe/Trahgol! Yes please, just raise the price of oil, no problem, we respect you as a leader!! You are democratically elected!! If you want, Ghurbaghe/Tarehgol President, then you can even produce cars in Iran and sell them to us in the west! We Will pay with tons of Gold

We, the West, are soooooo lucky to have a democratically elected President Tarehgol/Ghurbaghe in Iran, who wants Iran to become wealthy, developed Long live the cultivated natoion of Iran.....!!!!"

->I never favored a revolution. Or even war.
->I never favored sanctions. The sanctions by the west are aimed as a method to destroy the nation of Iran, and not the Islamic Republic. Sanctions are a method of war.
->ANY Iranian Leader, who will get the power in Iran, has to deal with the US. Which country in the World is independant of the US and NOT a MONKEY?

I want to see names and Facts.

amirparvizforsecularmonarchy

amirparvizforsecularmonarchy I Love Waterfalls and Find One of the most humorous things in the world; is the notion that Americans are a greater force for good & more civilized than Nazi's, Mullahs and Communists.

Sometimes people really are a surprise to me at how uninformed or misinformed they are. The same people then call for a democratic system.

"chi boodim" was becoming better and better year after year that is the Key, investment in sports and professional coaching on a scale not imaginable today, investment in schools and class sizes and teachers salaries which would have all soon become even better than France and the UK and on Par with Germany.

Iran was focused on becoming a diverse economy and industrialized, this would have by the early 80's due to the multiplier factor of expansion cause Iran's economy to go from 3 times the size of turkey's and the 9th largest GDP, to 8 to 10 times that of the turkish republic, and stabilizing the 4th largest GDP after USA, Japan and Germany, which is not too shabby for a meticulously law abiding country. Iran could export and build the most productive steel industries and mines to other 3rd world countries by the mid 80's once Iran's plants were at 100% production capacity. This was all halted due to IRI. Instead of Buying the most advanced steel Industries and technologies from Germany like Krupp Steel welost most of our most skilled and top notch work force to Germany, Japan and the USA. So Iran was for a fact unlike Saudi Arabia dependent on oil and was diversifying at the fastest rate away from oil unlike the other oil rich nations. The Irony is the late shah was doing all this for a people so ignorant that 35 years after his era are claiming him to have been... "A nation dependent on OIL and a puppet of the super power." when in reality he gave his life and his crown up for Iranians to be able to be independent of oil and depending less on the alliance with the USA (which Iran never was a Puppet for but was in reality in a struggle to the death to turn back the Freedom and Independence members of his team had died for and the king had given his own blood for.)

When you describe, "A nation that made cars but the only parts provided by Iran was the air in the tires and water in the radiators, dependent on oil and a puppet of others" sadly you show that you do not know that you are describing the IRI and not the late shahs Iran.

As for car manufacture and design, Iran was not yet focusing on this while the country was only at 10% steel production capacity, but as you obviously know a country that has a steel industry would be able to produce all its own aluminum planes and steel cars over time with its own materials and the reinvestment of profits into research and development. This Independence and Freedom is what the USA opposed and why they killed the last regime for and it is still not even registering on the consciences of many, that is embarrassing. Iran was about to be the producer of the most advanced tank in the world at the time with every part made in Iran although this was done in cooperation with r and d from the UK.

You just don't get what it means to be on the way and meeting every target ahead of schedule do you as we were doing? Or what is the difference between good leadership and bad, the basis of direction? What it means for teachers to have only a limited number of students, ample supplies and an income in today's pay like it exists in the uk and to meet every financial goal on the path to that goal and be stopped having achieved 100% of the most difficult phases in terms of education and skills and be 70% of the way there economically over a difficult 30 years of fighting uphill against attempts by the Uk in 53 and then Kennedy and finally Carter.

If you don't know or can't figure out what you lost, maybe in your case you really didn't deserve it. It doesn't mean you can just ignore the real successes of the past and what they mean today.

I am glad to have been of the Generation of Iran to have lived during the Pahlavi Era. I would describe the Late Shah as Peaceful, good, kindly, benevolent, generous, humane, gentle and compassionate. The Great Circumstance Iranians were experiencing was good fortune for having good leadership.

Ahriman was put to shame by our leftists and revolutionary anti-monarchists. Their Lies traveled around the world and were repeated a thousand times before any one had a change to even respond or enlighten them from their own ignorance, false pride, cruel hopes and ineptitude.

Thanks to the nostalgic posts and pictures
What's amazing is the constant presence of few of our compatriots on all the IC's post and blogs and their constant rants of anti Pahlavi some how irrelevant to the post itself
We have not learned to be civilized yet despite our old civilization
And with over 30 yrs of residency in the West not all but more than some
Thanks to schamsi and Amir for their posts as well
We as a nation were heading to an advance spot in the world
The west didn't want that and seemed Iranians intellectuals were in agreement with them too.

There is one important point. You may like or dislike the Shah as a person. But: as we have to accept, at that time he officially represented our country. And what happened to him, the next day happened to Iran and the Iranians, so these pictures symbollically stand for Iran:

->when the Mullahs raided the Shahs houses, it in reality showed the invasion of Iran. And the next day they did not hesitate zu invade OUR houses.
->when the Shah left Iran and was treatetd like a nobody that no country wanted and he was sent from country to country, the next day ALL IRanians were treatetd like that...

So before pointing to him on these pictures with a loudless "Haha!"->one shoud remember that WHAT THE WEST DID TO THE SHAH in 1979, and the treatment he received as a still head of state was the BEGINNING OF THE SAME TREATMENT OF ALL IRANIANS!!!!! the next day.

Interesting, none of the Iranian Beton heads would ever say a word against the Treatment of the Shah or at least of the Iranians who fled Iran after the revolution 1979. Instead the only thing they remember is 1953. And still they cheer a system called DEMOCRACY. I cdo not understand this tendency to subordinate. A deep minority complex...

Thanks for another round of nostalgic images & evocations. Wondering whether you might also have a few pictures from slums and shanty towns around Tehran and other major metropolitan areas in Iran of yonder years. Cheers

amirparvizforsecularmonarchy I Love Waterfalls and Find One of the most humorous things in the world; is the notion that Americans are a greater force for good & more civilized than Nazi's, Mullahs and Communists.

We had a massive rush to the cities with out adequate infrastructure support, management etc, this created problems, however they could be tackled with money and time. During the same time do you remember Harlem in the USA and how no white person could go there safely? You are right slums and shanty towns was mainly a brazil, nigeria, dominican republic 3rd world phenomenon, that due their money being sucked out by other core economies can not recover or handle their peoples needs. Iran was never in such a predicament, it was becoming a core economy itself.

One important fact is that Industrial out put was 550,000 tonnes going to 2 million per year, yet zobahan was made for 15 million tonnes of steel a year at full production capacity which was only a few years away, that king of money pays not just to build cities, but also to build huge corporations that design and produce everything in the country.

Iran's head was cut off just before the final steps were completed so they could be thwarted, the shah had he backed away from defending Iranian Freedom and Economic Independence would be alive today like his sister, he gave his life for a people who never even knew how he was serving them and why he and others close to him were killed.

Thankfully, most Iranians living in have clarity on this simple subject. Iran having been a preindustrial and 3rd world country and Having seen how much worse shanty towns, slums and even human rights are in democratic systems of other 3rd world under developed economies like Brazil or Oil rich Nigeria, not to mention the greater extent of corruption in the more advanced western democracies, I think Iranians have seen all they need to to know from which traditions come their strengths, happiness and successes and from which systems come abject failure, destitution, perversity and corruption.

Who do you think has more "Fuhrer Deficiency Syndrome," monarchists or Hezbollah? Could such feelings of yearning be considered Iran Nostalgia or a disorder?

in my experience supporters of a Fuhrer are stronger and more prevalent in democratic systems which themselves have produced far more fascist societies, dictatorship occurs more naturally and more frequently when a leader has absolute power, which democratic systems in practice produce more leaders with absolute power simply because of how they operate leaders choose their alliances based on making themselves more electable and powerful and not on principals. To make things even worse they reduce everything they can to making money regardless of what they produce or whether it is lawful or not, like arming Israel, they are also more prone to fascism because of all these obvious dynamics. Attaining absolute power, having supreme court justices rubber stamp all your decisions, because they are appointed either by you or your allies with key influence in the opposing party.

Then again, in your "experience" SAVAK was merely a Human Rights organization and Rastakhiz an instance of progress and civilization (of a Fascist variety of course).
What remains beyond your ken is the reality of social struggle and balance of power and how only these variables are the ones shaping and determining the outcomes in democratic societies.
