How times have changed. We used to read, "Iranians going to Iraq and defend the Holy shrines of Islam".
Now we read, "Shi'ite warriors march into Iraq to defend their shrines."
And that is a huge step.
Now I hear:
"Iranians are the champions of Asia".
"Iran has a clean sheet"
Iran's defence has been immaculate. Be it in the war front, or on the pitch, it has been undefeated.
As I write this, the game with Argentina will start in a few hours. And we will show that we can defend even against Messi.
But Iranians are inherently passive people. For many years people thought, that Islam would fire up Iran, to create that Caliphate the Shi'ite clergy scream about.
All that war war, fell on deaf ears. But attack Iran, and you will be pushed back. And in essence, that is what happened, when Saddam attacked Iran.
The Spirit of Iran, as enshrined in the Zend-Avesta, is non-violent and believes in Free Will. No hard nosed bad tempered Believer, will be able to win against a non-violent temperament.
As such, our boys in Brazil, are seen as gentlemen, who are masters of strategic defence. They have been under the duress of petty financing.
The Iran team has not been allowed, to have friendlies with the top notch teams, due to all the stringent controls placed on them by the Shi'ite politicians.
Team sport in the world, began in Iran, with the invention of Chogan (Polo), going back to the moment we domesticated the horse, for the first time in world history, some 20,000 years ago.
Comradery and team spirit started in Iran. How do you think we managed to create the world's largest empires, three times, each three hundred years long?
But ironically in present day, our great athletes are the ones who manage on their own, without much government help. We are champions in weightlifting and martial arts.
And so I will pray for our men to march forward and shoot. But by the same token I wish that no one goes and follows the Shi'ite politicians, and shoots a bullet in Iraq.
