The revenge of Khanoom Javid

This is a my mother in the National Iranian Oil Company's General Office in Abadan, on the northern tip of the Persian Gulf, around Norooz, 1971. She was the editor/writer of the English-language newsletter, Mash'al Abadan (Mantle of Abadan?). She was creative and published more than just oil industry figures and PR photos.

One day she featured the fire department and published a photo of fire fighters posing casually in or on or by the side of a fire engine. Oil company bureaucrats were shocked! The photo promoted “lack of discipline” among public workers, she was told. That and other “outrageous” features eventually led to her removal.
