SOUL NIDUS started 2007 with placement in the top 3 between bands from across Ontario, in Mississauga’s first annual battle of the band, and continued by playing shows all through summer along with a very successful mini tour in the UK in support of the UK release of their album, STOIC. For several years and in 2 incarnations, Soul Nidus has been creating music – along with a growing buzz that started in Canada and has reached across the Atlantic to Europe and as far as two of the band members’ native Iran. That buzz continues to grow and spread across the globe through little more than word of mouth.
With the universal appeal of songs evoking the softer side of the Foo Fighters, and ranging to jams reminiciscent of bands like Audioslave, Soul Nidus’ music maintains a beautiful, unique flavour throughout. It would be impossible to attempt to sum up their overall sound as it’s all over the musical map, but it’s this unpredictability that makes them so memorable in a scene where so much is forgettable.
Easily listenable catchy guitar lines, with well thought out drum
lines twist like DNA strands beneath the vocal styling of singer Ehsan
Ashrafi, a small man with a huge voice. His gravelly croon has
whispers of Dave Grohl-esque style, with a dash of Social Distortion’s
Mike Ness, but never resorts, or lends itself to imitation.
In October of this year, the band flew to the UK for a number of intimate live shows, as well as interviews and acoustic sessions on national radio (BBC World, Kerrang! Radio) and as featured artists on Total Rock Radio’s ‘Brave New World’ show to promote the UK release of their latest album, ‘STOIC’ (recorded at Megawatt Studios in Toronto’s SONY/BMG Building)..
Due to the trio’s stage presence, SOUL NIDUS has been dubbed a ‘Live Band’ by fans and critics. Every show is unique – whether it’s by playing different versions of songs or simply improvising on stage.
SOUL NIDUS are currently working on new material for the follow up to their acclaimed LP ‘STOIC’.
