What happened to the people from the land of “Shahs’ and Shah Zadeh”?

I don’t know if it is merely a desperate thought to make ourselves blend in with the western society or just the fact that western society has corrupted our thoughts. What happened to the people from the land of “Shahs’ and Shah Zadehs”? From our music groups “Juniors 5” singing “Team E maa” (a song about how we are suppose to take pride in our Iranian team) on a Spanish song, or the way the singers dress and look, as if they are desperately trying to look fashionable or in Sepideh’s case look like a cheap striper. I totally understand being modern and liberal, but what I don’t understand is losing yourself to another culture. I don’t take pride in our country as of right now, but I do take pride that I am Iranian and praise the Iranian culture.

As an individual who lives in America, as an American citizen, I totally value and appreciate the benefits that we have been given to me. However, is it not the beauty of this country that we can be from any culture, practice any tradition or religion and still be an American? Today more Iranians get drunk, do drugs, and dress as if they just came out of a bizarre fashion show, compare to any European or American that I have ever seen. More girls have lost their values and portray themselves as “open minded individuals” to fit in. They call their parents traditional and stand up in their face as if respect never had a meaning in our culture. They make fun of their parent’s accent, the way they talk, and dress just because they don’t look like Bill or George. But I think they are forgetting if it wasn’t for their parent’s hard work none of them would get a chance to dress half naked on Friday and Saturday nights, or in most cases the entire week, and tear up the clubs.

Our musicians/managers such as: Shahbal Shapareh, Amir Ghasemi, ShortKhis … (sorry I really have no respect for them to even spell their names right) promote people to embarrass themselves so they can make a few bucks (not mentioning some people have close ties with the great government of Iran, working with companies like Sorosh, and many more….). These are the people that take our iranian values away and change it and sell under their own name for recognition and money. (A pure example of it the new group “Juniors 5”.)

I am not much concerned about my generation, but I am worried about my kids and how much of the Iranian culture they grasp or how good their Penglish(Parsi+English) is going to be. Let’s face it more of us think that in comparison to every other culture or individual out there, we are gods of this planet, but not once we look at ourselves and see what we are becoming. A group of people who are so self centered that hate their own country man. A group of people who are so disrespectful that live in America, but call Americans foreigners (Kharejeez). A group of people with lost culture, country, values, tradition, and filled with so much corruption, who everyday fall deeper and deeper in the wells of society, which one day we are going to disappear in the darkness of it.

So let us respect the people that have given us this life, and love our parents. Be unique by being who we really are: A true Iranian who stands for its tradition and culture, and respects not only his country man, but the land that he lives in and the people within it. Why is it that we can’t be the culture that we were and bring great values back to humanity again? Dorood bar fahm va danesh keh vojodash paeyeh zendegist.
