Morgan Freeman quotes Persian Poet Omar Khayyam’s Famous Quatrain: The Moving Finger in the 1981 TV film The Death of a Prophet about the last 24 hours of the life of controversial Black Muslim Activist Malcolm X before his fatal assassination by members of the Nation of Islam. Denzel Washington was to portray Malcolm X in Spike Lee’s 1992 Feature Film that earned him an Oscar Nomination in 1993.
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
– Omar Khayyam, The Rubaiyat, Quatrain XI
