The Prisoner, produced by McGoohan himself and filmed in north Wales in 1967 and 1968 revolved around the efforts of a secret agent, who resigned early in his career, to clear his name. His aim was to escape from a beautiful but psychologically brutal prison for people who know too much. The series is remembered for the line: “I am not a number, I am a free man!”
