US lawmakers hail new curbs on cluster bomb sales

The United States banned exports of most kinds of controversial cluster bombs under spending legislation signed this week by US President Barack Obama, two US Senators said Thursday.Worldwide, about 100,000 people have been killed or maimed by cluster bombs since 1965, 98 percent of them civilians, according to campaign group Handicap International.
