CNN Sold to NBC

From Uganda Morning Dispatch:

All the major news agencies are reporting that due to the drastic fall in its advertising revenues, CNN has been sold to NBC.

It is reported that NBC will start laying off as many as eighty nine percent of the news staff at CNN, starting with Mr. Wolf Blitzer and Mr. Ali Velchi.

It is also reported that executives at NBC, in order to effect further cost reductions, are planning to re-broadcast all the news programs starting from June 1, 1980.  An NBC executive was quoted as saying, “there are enough live news outlets on both television and on the Internet.  We want to create a new Nostalgic News Center (NNC) showing only news of the by gone years. People are tired of spending the little time they have digesting fresh news. Our polls indicate that people are yearning for old news.”

TV Guide reports that NBC is considering to package all the past “breaking news” stories, going back to 1980,  and offering them on a pay per view basis.

In a separate report,  Mr. Ali Velchi,  minutes before receiving his leather bound pink slip, reported that Iranian.com has gone public and its shares are being traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AFD.
