Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani, Iran’s influential former president, told a crowd of massed opposition supporters on Friday that Iran was in “crisis” following the disputed presidential election and and urged confidence building measures. At a historic Friday prayers address at Tehran university, Mr Rafsanjani, whose words were repeatedly interrupted by both supporters and opponents, said: “Conditions today are bitter… and we all have lost”.
