Supreme Leader says Quran advises Muslims to confront enemies

TEHRAN (IRNA) – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that based on the Quran’s teachings Muslims should be “tough and impervious” to their enemies.

The ayatollah made the remarks in a Quran reciting session held on the occasion of the beginning of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

A number of leading reciters of Quran read some verses of the holy book in the presence of the Supreme Leader.

“Based on the Quranic teachings, Muslims should be tough and impervious to enemies and kind and flexible to their friends,” stressed Ayatollah Khamenei.

He added, “personal interests and intentions as well as power and the love for money would never stop those who are familiar with the true meaning of the Quranic teachings from living based on its instructions.”

The ayatollah also said that those who had understood the true message of Quran’s teachings “”would never act in a way which would lead to damaging the national unity.””

The evening prayers were led by the Supreme Leader at the end of the Quran reciting session.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also said on Saturday that the holy month of Ramadan is the month of exercising resistance against the bullying and expansionist powers.
