Iranian on-line Memorial Site

I saw this VOA special about my friend’s website.  He jokingly sent the link to me with a message “reserve your spot today” which is his way of getting back at me for all the teasing I have done about his new role as the internet “Farokhlagha khanoum” (if you have read or watched Dayi jan Napoleon, you’ll get the joke)…

Despite my lighthearted comments about Cameron’s new role in the online Iranian community, I believe that this is a serious matter.

For all of us who live far away from our loved ones, losing a grandparent, a parent and a loved one is a special heartbreaking event. Some of us don’t have the chance to be there and to mourn their loss amongst the familiar faces which is hard to deal with and always very painful.

I think the memorial site allows us to open up and share our heartfelt memories and mourn. I witnessed the emotional turmoil he went through when he lost his own father, a man he respects and looks up to who lived far away from him for many years.

These days that I have my parents visiting me, seeing their much older faces and shrinking bodies, I keep thinking of the unthinkable and want to spend every moment I have with them. Lets face it, we all know that the time will come sooner or later, some of us have missed our parents in so many important events of our lives. We have celebrated birthdays, Norouz, weddings etc without their presence. I am going to cherish every moment I have with them even if it’s is just for a short few weeks… Do they know how much they mean to me? Do they know how much my son and I have missed by living so far away from them?

It was good to see VOA gave my friend and his website an introduction. I have visited the site and it’s very easy to navigate and tastefully done.

Please check it out and see for yourself.
