A scientist who worked for the Defense Department and other US agencies has been arrested on espionage charges, the US Justice Department said on Monday.
The Justice Department said Stewart David Nozette, 52, was charged in a criminal complaint with attempting to communicate, deliver and transmit classified information to an individual he believed to be an Israeli intelligence officer.
The complaint, unsealed Monday, does not allege that the government of Israel or anyone acting on its behalf violated US law.
Nozette was arrested Monday by FBI agents and is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court in Washington on Tuesday.
