Iran to try brother-in-law of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi

Shapour Kazemi to appear before revolutionary court on unspecified charges after arrest during post-election crackdown.

The brother-in-law of Iran‘s main opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi, will be put on trial before the revolutionary court, months after his arrest in the country’s post-election crackdown, Tehran’s public prosecutor said today.

The opposition denounced the arrest of Shapour Kazemi as an attempt to put on pressure Mousavi. The brother of Mousavi’s wife, Kazemi was held in June when security forces crushed pro-reform protests that erupted after the disputed presidential election. Mousavi’s wife, Zahra Rahnavard, said Kazemi, a 62-year-old communications engineer, was apolitical.
