Dr. Jamshid Jim Bakhtiar, whose performance as part of the University of Virginia football team earned him All-America honors in 1957 had his jersey retired during halftime at the UVA vs Virginia Tech football game on Saturday November 28th.
Bakhtiar will also be honored as a 2009 Legend at the Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship Game on December 5, 2009 during pre-game ceremonies at Raymond James Stadium (University of South Florida) for the 5th Annual Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship, which has an 8 p.m. kickoff.
Jamshid, or Jim as he is also known, came to America from Iran in 1946 when he was 11 years old. He first played football with the Washington D.C. Boys Club. He then became the Captain of the football team at Western High School in Washington D.C. and later in 1957 became All American Football Player at the University of Virginia, where some referred to him as The Persian Prince ABC featured him in a special called Cingular All-American on December 9th, 2008. He is one of U.V.A.s brightest stars, setting an ACC career rushing record that stood for more than a decade. Read more about Bakhtiar and here and here.
