Beijing, 28 March: Iran’s culture and Islamic guidance Minister Mohammad Hoseyni said Sunday [27 March] the name of “Persian Gulf” is the accurate, true and complete term for Iran’s southern waters.
Hoseyni made the remark when signing the memorial book at the Pearl Museum in the Sanya city located in the southern Chinese province of Hainan.
The minister referred to an old world map in that Museum on which the “Persian Gulf” is seen, adding that this map is a proof to the accuracy of the name.
Despite efforts by some countries to forge other names, there are many world maps on which the “Persian Gulf” is written, Hoseyni noted.
He later called on world officials and media to use the word of “Persian Gulf” instead of any falsified name in their speeches and reports.
The Iranian culture and Islamic guidance minister is in China on a five-day visit for the 17th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Culture Ministers.
