Partly based on the comic book, the duet have taken a radical step away from the original story and will shoot the film in technicolor and Cinemascope in tribute to the Golden Age of Italian Cinema. The Story spans from the 1930’s to the 1990’s and includes the plot of the original story of Satrapi’s uncle Nasser Ali Khan a famous violin player who falls into a deep depression after his intrument is destroyed in an accident. Losing his inspiration he wishes to die.
The film is equally an allegorical tale and an Italian like Comedy.
Satrapi and Paronnaud don’t intend to stop here since they announced a third movie to complete what they see as a Trilogy. The third being Le Onzieme Laureate aka the Eleventh Laureate ( a Bergmanian title ) which the directors explained will be a kind of Western Spaghetti set on the Caspian Sea between the 1900’s and 1950’s Iran.
