Please Sign Petition Calling for the Release of Political Prisoner Ehsan Abdo-Tabrizi

Ehsan Abdoh Tabrizi, PhD student at the School of Government and International Affairs at Durham University (UK), and former MA student in History at the University of Essex (UK), has been in prison in Iran since mid-January 2010. He was detained after travelling to Tehran during the Christmas break to visit his family, and in particular his ailing mother.

To our knowledge, Ehsan spent over 50 days in solitary confinement and is yet to be charged or allowed legal representation. Only after some 50 days was he finally allowed his first meeting and is said to have been in poor health.

Ehsan was not politically active, nor did he have any links with the opposition. He is being detained on the most spurious and opaque of suspicions. The failure to be charged for such a lengthy period of time, only adds suspicion to the dubiousness of his protracted detention. In light of this and in view of basic human rights enshrined in international and Iranian laws, we believe that Ehsan Abdoh Tabrizi should be released immediately without conditions and allowed to return to the UK to resume his PhD research at Durham.

Ehsan is a caring, conscientious and generous young man and a supporter of human rights and  justice in his homeland and around the world.

We urge you to sign and disseminate the below petition and spread the news of this innocent, intelligent and conscientious young man’s plight.
