We Want Green Movement Music Videos

Based on the count of YouTube listings, there are now more posts of music videos of the Green Movement than actual posts about the Green Movement.

Of course I am kidding. (Or am I?)

I especially liked the title of this one (see blog image above). “For thirty years the Iranian people have been repressed.” Get it? While it is probably true, given we have no Iranian Porn to speak of (or whack to) or that mentioning sexuality and Iranian in the same sentence is a rare stoneable offense. Based on my own personal and not that far from a true scientific study, Iranians truly are Repressed, just as the title says. Although this has nothing to do with the Green Movement. Hey wait a minut…

But what is this penchant for making so many Green Movement slide-shows of the Mousavi followers in Iran getting beat up, set to some crappy music?

They all have the same images, Green painted hands making a heart symbol, several closeups of hot green girls, bloody guy being carried, bloody hand, more hot girls, a not very hot girl with an unusually large and sensual mouth screaming something or other, Mousavi with a bullhorn, Mousavi making the peace sign, Mousavi in the crowd, (Mousavi, Mousavi everywhere! With not a thought to think!) another hot girl holding up a “where is my vote? sign, a pic of a large crowd of Iranian looking people taken in Gaza, that same long crowd shot marching to or from Azadi square, and then finish it off with 3 more hot girls from LA holding up an “Amadinejad is not my President” sign. Optionally if you’re going for “serious” as opposed to “jovial”, you add in the pre-requisite Neda pic or two and you’re done.

Next pick your music. Iranian stuff is easier since neither the Iranian artist nor YouTube has any clue about Iranian music copyright, so you’re golden on that count.

Speaking of count, after you upload it, you of course want as many people as possible to watch it and like you were when you spent the 5 minutes creating it, be moved by it. Because this stuff is of course, very moving too. Even though I know how it ends, they get me every time. OK, maybe not every time. OK, maybe never, since right after I saw my first one.

I recently tried my own hand at it, and with the right software and enough RAM, it’s pretty damn simple really. Drag and drop stupid-simple. So why do it? I mean if anyone can do it, what’s the point?

None of them have a lot of views, apprently as reported, most of the views are from Iran’s intelligence service trying to somehow get their Pirated Chinese copy of shareware face identifiation software to work properly.

But Iranians seem to be having a lot of fun making these videos. Almost as much fun (and impact) as Twitter, which while everyone thinks was a phenomenon in the West, it turns out most use it because it is merely free, as opposed to the standard SMS charges that Iranians inside Iran have to pay.

But maybe another reason so many seem obsessed with making these ridiculous videos, is that deep down all Iranians have got a little Kiarostami in them! Oops, now everyone is going to (dare I say it!) switch to black and white music videos for that final missing dramatic effect. Nah, how would they add in the green color? Because you simply have to have something Green in your Green music slide-show. Because the name and the movement and the green color in the images is not enough. And it wouldn’t be art unless you added something of your own creation that was green. OK maybe it’s still not art even if you did add something of your own that is green.

Hey!, how about using a song from the band Green Day? Because no one has thought of that yet..

OK, I’m bored. And this is my second allowable post today. See you maybe tomorrow. i hear it’s going to be a Green one.
