Atomic chief: Iran to curb enrichment if uranium swap implemented

Iran is ready to halt part of its uranium enrichment programme if an uranium swap deal is implemented, the country’s atomic energy chief was quoted as saying Thursday.

Ali Akbar Salehi told the news network Al Alam that Teheran would suspend enriching uranium to 20 per cent if the swap deal was implemented and it received fuel for a medical reactor in the capital.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki reportedly conveyed the same message to his Turkish and Brazilian counterparts, Ahmet Davutoglu and Celso Amorim, during a meeting in Istanbul July 25.
