Guards involved in smuggling at Iran port

Tehran, Aug. 12 – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is running a major smuggling network from the southern Iranian island of Qeshm, situated in the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf below the port city of Bandar Abbas in mainland Iran, according to a leaked IRGC internal report.

The report indicates that in an attempt to cover up its extensive role in illegal trade, the IRGC unloads its smuggled imports at the port township of Aban on the island using very large storage facilities. It then distributes the products gradually into the Iranian market.

The report also says that the IRGC is building a large base at a region called Roudkhaneh Sarbaz in the south-eastern province of Sistan-va-Baluchestan. IRGC members at the base illegally enter Pakistan from where they smuggle into Iran all sorts of products, including drugs, without being subjected to any inspections.
