ran has begun the construction of a major highway that will connect the holy city of Qom in central Iran to the holy city of Mashhad in the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the 1,100-kilometer highway project, known as the Shrine to Shrine Highway, on Saturday.
