The Persian Rite of Spring, created by Niloufar Talebi in collaboration with composer and video artist Bobak Salehi, is a multimedia show about the mythology, poetry, music, folklore and celebrations of Norouz, a millennia-old tradition celebrated by Iranians and others around the world. The birth of light and its victory over dark is an archetypical dynamic with a series of ceremonies from Yalda (Winter Solstice) through 13-Bedar (Outdoor 13) that usher in the renewal of the world each spring, which The Persian Rite of Spring brings to life. The Persian Rite of Spring world-premiered at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art of March 14, 2010 and was commissioned by the Farhang Foundation. “The oldest art form, storytelling, is on dazzling display in Niloufar Talebi’s electrifying Persian Rite of Spring – a modern theatrical performance born out of cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary wisdom. Niloufar masterfully captures the essence of ancient rituals and myths while infusing them with a thoroughly modern sensibility. The result is a theatrical performance for all ages that will awaken even the most slumbering soul into a new beginning!” Maryna Hrushetska, Director, Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles

“A mesmerizing performance, The Persian Rite of Spring is expertly researched, written, directed and performed, weaving together stories from the Shahnameh, poetry, mythology, folklore, and traditions of Nowruz. Bringing our ancient heritage to life with a 21st Century point of view, Niloufar Talebi is the only person I know who beautifully narrates in English, Avestan, and Persian.” Dr. Touraj Daryaee, Professor of Iranian History and the Persiante World; Associate Director of Dr. Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies

“A cultural worker of the highest order, Niloufar Talebi does the bravest work, transforming not only the society from which she comes, but help change the society in which she lives.” Jack Hirschman, San Francisco Poet Laureate
