February 14 (25 Bahman): developing news

And so, here we are again. After months of silence achieved through unbelievably violent suppression, intimidation, arrests, torture, and executions, the people of Iran are preparing one more time to take to the streets in solidarity with the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, and to protest Iran’s state of total political and civil suffocation following last year’s fraudulent elections.

Just as Ali Khamenei and his subordinates were getting really comfortable calling the 2009 uprisings “sedition,” and the protesters “seditionists instigated and funded by foreign powers,” the people have mobilized to take to streets another time.

Though the official application for a license to demonstrate was filed last week with Iran’s Interior Ministry by Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi, the impression one picks up from visiting the Iranian cyberspace is only marginally indicative of support for the two men as “leaders” of the movement. It appears that the Green Movement continues to live, much as it first started, without the need for leaders to tell it what to do.

The demonstration is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. Tehran time on Monday, February 14. I will be posting any news I hear about it here. I would like to invite you all to join me in posting news and information about the developments here, too. In the absence of objective formal reporting out of Iran, the ordinary people of Iran use their limited means to get their voices out of Iran. Let us all help to get their voices out. We are the media.
