May 07, 2011 “Information Clearing House” — Psychologist Rollo May wrote, “Hate is not the opposite of love. Apathy is.” To that, well known 20th century American author Leo Buscaglia added, “It’s not giving a damn.” Those two voices go a long way toward making clear what apathy is.
What is it that we don’t give a damn about that should concern us?
Think for a moment about those who preach love of fellow humans but who are uncaring and disinterested about those who should be the concern of any humanist.
