Iran sentences economist to one year jail

June 12 – The Islamic Revolutionary Court has sentenced Fariborz Raiis-Dana, a renowned economist to one year jail term, Aftab news reported.

He was accused of membership in the “contraband” Iranian Writers’ Union and signing different open letters criticizing the Islamic rulership for torture and mishandling of detainees during the protest waves after the presidential elections in 2009.

Mohammad Moghaysseh, the judge of the IRC has also blamed the economist, writer and social activist for giving interviews to foreign media such as BBC and Voice of America.
