What the President Left Out in his Speech to the UN

In his speech today President Obama said the following:

The Jewish people have forged a successful state in their historic homeland. Israel deserves recognition. It deserves normal relations with its neighbors. And friends of the Palestinians do them no favors by ignoring this truth, just as friends of Israel must recognize the need to pursue a two-state solution with a secure Israel next to an independent Palestine.

That is the truth — each side has legitimate aspirations — and that’s part of what makes peace so hard. And the deadlock will only be broken when each side learns to stand in the other’s shoes; each side can see the world through the other’s eyes. That’s what we should be encouraging. That’s what we should be promoting.

What he left out:

The Israelis cannot be asked to stand in the shoes of an occupied, downtrodden people. Nations must talk to nations. Peace will come when the Palestinians are able to stand on their own two feet as equals, with their own Nation. That is why today, after 60 years of failure, a new page must be opened.

For all of these reasons today I am calling upon the United Nations Security Council, in consultation with the General Assembly, and with their necessary approval, to request the International Court of Justice to devise and oversee an International Palestine Governance Commission which shall be empowered to assume State Sovereignty in the West Bank and Gaza, working with all parties as free and equal citizens to the end of establishing a national Constitution and a state with sufficient and proven abilities and institutions to form a more perfect union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common (police) security, promote the General Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to the People of Palestine, for a period of 20 years, extendable for equal periods of 20 years each, until such time as the International Court of Justice reports to the Security Council and the General Assembly, and it is known and generally agreed by the Nations of the World, that the independent and free Nation of Palestine is ready, able and willing to take its place as a full state member of the United Nations.
