The Iranian who lost both his legs in the February 14 explosions has been charged with four offences, including the attempted murder of policemen on duty, but remains silent on his motives and the source of explosives he was possessing, deputy national police chief Pansiri Praphawat said yesterday.
The officer said that after two hours of grilling, Saeid Moradi admitted that he owned the explosives found in a rented Bangkok house, that he had set them off and that he had lobbed grenades at a taxi and a police car chasing him.
A lawyer and an interpreter were present during the questioning.
Pansiri said Moradi refused to say what motivated him to prepare the explosives and why he was making radio bombs inside the house near Pridi Banomyong Road, or how he was linked with the other four suspects, all Iranian nationals.
Moradi will be indicted tomorrow and put under court custody if he is discharged from hospital.
He said the five suspects’ operation was similar to a recent incident in India, especially in the way magnets were used to attach bombs to the vehicles of targets, though police have yet to decide on whether to press terrorism charges against Moradi and the other suspects.
