Iranian-German Composer Ramin Djawadi Is Scoring Ava DuVernay’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’

Last year we wrote about Iranian-German composer Ramin Djawadi, whose contributions to the soundtracks for Westworld and Game of Thrones have become thriving and indispensable motifs for these series. For the former in particular, Djawadi has scored six entire seasons of the acclaimed HBO show, making his name and career more or less synonymous with the channel’s crown jewel fantastical drama.

Next month, we’ll see a decidedly different (and decidedly more kid-friendly) side of Djawadi, as he will be composing the soundtrack to Disney’s highly-anticipated A Wrinkle in Time. Directed by Ava DuVernay—making history as the first African-American woman to direct a live-action film with a $100 million+ budget—the film is an adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s award-winning novel of the same name, with collaborators which include Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and newcomer Storm Reid in the lead role of Meg Murry.

Djawadi is no stranger to film composition; his film credits include Blade: Trinity, Open Season, and the original Iron Man, for which he was nominated for a Saturn Award. Additionally, he has been announced as the composer for the upcoming Slender Man film alongside Brandon Campbell.
