Surprise! Mohammad Is The Most Popular Boys Name In Israel

Israeli Population and Immigration Authority announced in a statement issued yesterday that Mohammad is the most common name for boys in Israel this year, Arab48 reported.

The statement said the most popular name given to newborn boys was Mohammad, while Ariel was the most common Jewish name.

According to the data issued by the Israeli authorities, 2018 has so far witnessed the delivery of 168,441 babies in Israel, 61,181 marriages, 24,868 divorces and 41,165 deaths.

The data also showed that 24,496 new immigrants arrived in Israel this year, noting an increase in the immigration rate, divorce rate and decrease in marriages and deaths.

Based on the data issued by the Israeli authorities, the top ten most common names for boys and girls that were given to the 168,441 children born over the past 12 months were Mohammad, Yossef, Ariel, Omer, Adam, David, Daniel, Lavi, Eitan and Uri.

Meanwhile, Tamar, Avigail, Miriam, Sara, Adel, Yael, Noa, Shira, Noya and Lia were the most used popular girls names.

Israeli daily Haaretz accused authorities in 2013 of trying to cover up that Mohammad was the most popular baby name by omitting names with clear Arab origins from the official list.
