PERSIAN DREAMS: Recreating Ghajar Art - Rose Ghajar & Santana

The Artists1 Museum in Washington DC welcomes the public to view selected paintings by artists Rose Ghajar and Santana from the series "Persian Dreams: Recreating Ghajar Art". (See feature in The Iranian)

Ghajar, an Iranian/American born in New York City and Santana, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico are collaborating artists on this series.

The paintings capture the essence of the Ghajar (Qajar) Dynasty in Persian Art History characterized by representational art of the royal courts beginning in the late 18th century. Exquisite in detail and rich in color, the paintings are a combination of replicas of original Ghajar Dynasty works and personal renditions of them.

This unique series, characterized by fine craftsmanship and a dedication to traditional painting, brings alive Persian history and makes it possible for the public to experience the past for themselves.

Over the past 40 years she has had 25 one-women shows in London, Stuttgaart, Vienna, Tehran, Abadan and West Palm Beach, Hawaii and Detroit. Santana, trained in classical art at the University of Mexico met Rose just a year ago by chance in Guadalajara. His intricate portraits of the Virgin Mary impressed Rose and she was inspired by a vision and promptly introduced Ghajar art to Santana. Once Rose put the finishing touches on the first painting she knew this was the beginning of a creative collaboration. They both currently reside and work in Guadalajara, Msxico.

Regular gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 am to 6 pm. A public reception for the artists will be held on Friday, October 8th, from 6 to 8 pm. The gallery will also be open after hours for Third Thursday, October 21st, from 6 to 8 pm.

The Artists1 Museum is conveniently located at 406 Seventh Street NW, just one block from the Archives or Gallery Place metro stop.
