Iran , E.U. to hold talks in Tehran
June 19, 2000, Tehran (dpa) - Iran and the European Union will hold
talks in Teheran this week, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi
said Monday.
``The fifth round of comprehensive dialogue between Iran and the E.U.
will be held Wednesday in Teheran,'' Assefi told the official news agency
IRNA.
The Iranian side will be headed in these talks by Deputy Foreign Minister
Morteza Sarmadi and the E.U. side by Francisco Manuel Seixas de Costa,
Deputy Foreign Minister of Portugal which is currently rotating E.U. chairman.
``During these negotiations the two sides will exchange views on bilateral
cooperation as well as all regional and international issues,'' the spokesman
said.
De Costa will arrive in Teheran in Wednesday and leave the Iranian capital
on Thursday,
Iran and the E.U. have improved ties since the presidency of Mohammad
Khatami in 1997 and several E.U. foreign ministers have so far been in
Teheran for finding ways to expand relations.
Also Khatami has already paid state-visits to Italy and France and is
scheduled to visit Germany next month. Before Germany, he will go to China
for a four-day visit.
