FREE CONCERTS BY WASHINGTON D.C. RECORDING ARTISTS SHAHIN & SEPEHR SAT., MARCH 20 - MCI CENTER'S DISCOVERY CHANNEL STORE

Washington, D.C. - D.C. recording artists Shahin Shahida and Sepehr Haddad will perform with the band from their 4th CD World Café in two free 45-minute concerts on Saturday, March 20, at 1:00pm and 4:00pm, at the MCI Center's Discovery Channel Flagship Store, located at 601 F St., N.W.

Both Persian-Americans, Shahin and Sepehr have enjoyed sinking deep roots into the Washington and American music scene, but they hold Iran in a special place in their hearts. Iranians around the world will celebrate the Persian New Year, on March 20, with the Celebration of the Vernal Equinox or "Noruz," the oldest continuously celebrated human holiday, begun more than 5,000 year ago. (* Astrology and astronomy enthusiasts - see more information below on "Noruzz.")

World Café's roll keeps on, since its debut last year at #18 on the Billboard New Age Chart. It's a hot mix of musical styles, from West African calypso and Cuban salsa to Brazilian samba, blues, gypsy flamenco and American rock and roll. It is instrumental without being typically "new age." The Washington Post recently wrote of World Café "evocative melodies float from the duo's nylon string guitars and they're backed up by a similarly tight band," adding that "the Gypsy guitar workout 'Florian's Café' and the flamenco version of Cat Stevens? 'Wild World'" are especially hot.

The public is invited to celebrate the Discovery Channel's flagship store's 1st anniversary, the Persian New Year and the success of Washington, D.C.'s, local artists Shahin & Sepehr's World Café by attending these free concerts.

* More on "Noruz" - The first day of the Iranian solar year, "Noruz" is translated literally as "New Day." Since the Achaemenid era (5th century B.C.), the official Persian year has begun with when the sun leaves the zodiac of Pisces and enters the zodiacal sign of Aries, a fire sign, signifying the Spring Equinox. The moment the sun crosses the equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year and families gather together to observe the rituals.

This year, Noruz occurs on March 20th at 8:47 pm EST in the northern hemisphere.
