Do you feel you belong to a lost generation?
Salam Irani
Do you ever feel that you belong to a lost generation of Iranians? A
generation that left the country young enough to adapt well to a new home
and yet too old to be able to completely sell-out?
Some have used this situation to the most, retaining the best of their
own culture and incorporating what their new culture has to offer (or have
they?) while others have either fallen deep in to a denial stage (perhaps
combined with self-hate) and "westernized" fully or retreated
back into a complete Iranian identity.
There is no real definition for this group, but I can guesstimate that
they left Iran when they were between 14 and 21 years old and are currently
between 24 and 36 (you may have a better criteria, send us your opinions).
Many Iranians by nature are already attracted to extremes but this generation
has gone further than all others and certainly deserves the title of "Generation
Extreme!".
That is perhaps why most have succeeded in their own area of study or
work and business while others have gone to extremes in politics or become
super "Gherti". I am not here to judge who has done better than
others and am not a sociologist or psychologist either but believe that
this generation needs further discussion and attention.
And who better to do that than the Generation Extremers themselves.
That is the reason behind a new e-mail discussion group simply called
Generation Extreme.
You can subscribe to it at: //GenExtreme.listbot.com/
and then send your messages to: GenExtreme@listbot.com
Please forward this message to as many Generation Extremers as possible.
A wide and expanded discussion group will be needed to bring about our
concerns and issues and offer solutions. Looking forward to your participation
and comments.
