Iranian Armenian Christians pray at the Qareh Church (Black Church) in
Chaldoran some 560 miles (900 kilometers) northwest of Tehran Friday, July
28, 2000. Jasliq Aram, center, came to Iran accompained by tens of thousands
of Christian pilgrims in order to visit the Iranian Qarah Church. The visit
is to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the construction of the church near
the Iranian Chaldoran plain, and many Christians have come from around
the world to attend the anniversary. Some 150,000 Armenian Christians live
in Iran, and after the Republic of Armenia Iran is the second country with
the greatest number of Armenian Christians in the world.
