TEHRAN - Iranian women stand in front of a board showing leaflets of candidates
to the upcoming parliamentary election in Tehran February 14. More than
6,000 candidates will compete for 290 seats in the expanded parliament
when voters cast their ballots on February 18. The reformists' leader,
President Khatami, hopes that Friday's elections will be a replay of the
1997 presidential vote in which he drew 20 million votes to his hard-line
rival's 7 million.
