General Farhad Nazari, along with 17 other subordinates had been accused
of ordering a brutal crackdown on university students on July 8, 1999.
The unrest began when extremists from the hard line Islamic vigilante group,
with some help from the police, attacked pro-democracy Tehran students
in their university dormitory in which one student was killed and many
