Iranian-American Cultural Society of Maryland will host a Chahar Shambeh Soury celebration, complete with dancing, food, and fire jumping, on Tuesday night, 6:00 PM.

Children from Farsi school will perform, and there will be food from House of Kebob. Entrance fee: $6 for members, $8 for non-members. Children under 5 free.

Gallery Ovissi is proud to feature the works of contemporary artists, Saghar Barzmehri (manipulated photography), Maryam Javaheri (works on paper) and Bay Area artists Taraneh Hemami (works on paper) and Hadi Tabatabai (carvings on paper, wood and slate). A unique collection of contemporary works of art that speak to the aesthetic eye as well as the culturally aware mind. These artists share one common thread, their Iranian heritage, but each collection of works speaks a different story.

Gallery Ovissi is also presenting a Gallery Talk on Sunday, March 14, 1999 at 2:30 p.m., where some of the artists and Gallery Owner, Maryam Ovissi, will speak about the works on exhibit.

Dear Friend,

To share my experiences of Iran with others, I have begun setting up a non-profit organization called Rediscover Iran (RI) whose goal is to create opportunities for Iranian- American youth to have direct contact with the Iranian people and their culture. This summer RI will be offering a six-week Mini-Semester Abroad in Iran where participants will engage in cultural and educational activities in addition to receiving language instruction.
