* Oil forges new high as U.S. inventories dip
LONDON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Oil's eight-month rally hit yet another
high on Wednesday as dealers cited news that U.S. petroleum inventories
had dropped to near-three-year lows as proof OPEC supply curbs were biting
deep ahead of winter. Benchmark Brent crude blend touched $24.30 a barrel,
a 33-month high, after the American Petroleum Institute said crude stocks
in the world's biggest oil consumer fell by 3.7 million barrels last week

* Iran-Germany ties look brighter after court rules out Hofer death
sentence
TEHRAN, Sept 29 (AFP) - An Iranian court lifted the spectre of the death
penalty against a German businessman Wednesday in a ruling that could strengthen
strained ties between Tehran and its largest European trade partner Berlin.
Judge Yusef Musavi said the death penalty was not applicable in the case
of Helmut Hofer, charged with having sexual relations with an Iranian Muslim

giant oil field in the southwest did not fall under any contract the Islamic
republic has with foreign oil companies. ``No foreign oil company including
TotalFina have had data related to the newly discovered Azadegan oil field.
