The Gene Siskel Film Center win Chicago elcomes you to our 11th Festival
of Films from Iran, running from October 7 through November 5. The 2000
edition festival will feature a varied line-up of new films from Iran,
including Chicago premieres and U.S. premieres, two films of the Iranian
diaspora, appearances by prestigious filmmaker guests who will be available
for audience discussion, and a free panel discussion supported by the Illinois

* War experiences for the theater, New Orleans
Kathy Randels is a theatre artist based in New Orleans whose work is
extremely powerful and challenging, and has been very well received by
critics and audiences. A solo show that she toured to San Francisco was
hosted by Darvag Theatre for a special performance in Berkeley, and opened
an Iranian connection. Since then she has been working in Belgrade with
Dah Theatre on a project about the role of the artist in wartime, and has
now recently started a collaborative theatre project on the Iran/Iraq war.
She is hoping to meet Iranians (and Iraqis) living in the New Orleans area
who are willing to talk about their experiences related to the war, and

* History of Persian poetry, Berkeley
Fall 2000: Rudaki to Khayyam Three hours of class per week. This semester-length
seminar will deal with significant works of the most celebrated Persian
classical poets. Reading and analysis of representative selections from
various genres of poetry in Persian literature. A literary-historical survey
of Persian poetry from the fourth to the sixth century with the emphasis
on Shahnameh and Vis-o Ramin.

A new collection of writing aims to bring together the chorus of voices
by and about women of the Iranian Diaspora. We are seeking submissions
of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction essays for a new collection of writing
by and about Iranian women in the Diaspora. Works that particularly challenge
the notion of a homogeneous Iranian female and that reflect a feminist

* Helping drought victims in Iran
Iranian Health Foroum e-News (www.iranianhealthforum.org)
-- To help the victims of Iran's worst drought in 30 years, donors can
make their contributions directly to the Iranian government or to relevant
UN agencies. (See news here)
