Interview with film director Ramin Serry
By Bruce Bahmani
March 8, 2001
The Iranian
Recently I met an amazing young man. His name is Ramin Serry and
he is a film director. The American reaction to the hostage crisis after
the 1979 revolution affected him so deeply as a teenager that he has now
made a movie which I think is amazing. The movie releases in the SF film
festival this week and you should see it if you can. It will likely move
to the community later and there is a definite buzz on this one folks!
Anyhow, what better way to continue on with my series on exciting Iranians
doing exciting things! What follows is my interview with Ramin >>>

Totalitarianism does not work, not even in Iran
By Daniel Zangeneh

There was the aroma of kabab, ghormeh sabzi, beer and wine, mixed with
Persian music. People were mingling and having a good time. I didn't know

Asghar Shah
I hereby proclaim myself King of Kings
By Asghar Agha
March 7, 2001
The Iranian
I read Mihandoust's article about Reza Pahlavi, "My friend",
and I came up with an idea.
Proclamation
I hereby proclaim myself King of Persia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
I am Asghar, heretofore known as Asghar Shah, because we never had an Asghar
Shah in our history.
During my last ski trip, some friends and I rented a condo and I insisted
on sleeping on the couch. Such humility, rare among Iranians, should qualify
me as King of Kings >>>

By Karim Azari

The Iranian
"Did you see the Shah's son speaking at the Press Club a few days
ago?" I asked casually, making sure to use an impartial tone.
He raised his eyebrows and his jaw slowly dropped. His incredulity gave
me the impression that this was much bigger news than I initially thought.
"Ehhhh?" he replied, still awestruck. "You saw Shah Hassan
at de Price Club?" >>>

Rather bleak
Iran from an expatriate businessman's point of view
By A. Peeroozi
March 2, 2001
The Iranian
I met with a cross section of Iranian businessmen and one businesswoman.
My overall assessment was rather bleak. The level of expertise for running
and managing companies is very low compared to many other Asian countries.
I met with attorneys regarding business laws in Iran. These meetings were
not very encouraging. I found that the laws are absolutely anti-business
