    Before striking out on their own, Washington, D.C.-based DJs and producers Ali "Dubfire" Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi had already established themselves as ace remixers for everyone from De'Lacy to the Rolling Stones.

    Here, the Iranian-American house team known as Deep Dish shows it is just as adept at building original dance tracks as it is at giving new life to tedious pop stars. Junk Science gets rolling with a propulsive Everything but the Girl collaboration called "The Future of the Future (Stay Gold)," which matches Tracey Thorn's angelic voice with the duo's restless beats.

    But things really take off as Deep Dish further unravel their exploratory rhythms and exhilarating electronic sweeps. Cinematic effects add tension and sensuality to tracks like "My Only Sin" and "Persepolis," while the group stays in touch with its more carnal side with pumping cuts like "Chocolate City (Love Songs)" and "Stranded," one of 1997's most revelatory club hits.
