* Norway to send ambassador back to Iran

OSLO, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Norway said on Friday it would reinstate an ambassador in Tehran in the New Year after cutting ties in 1995 over a shooting connected with the Salman Rushdie affair. The Norwegian Foreign Ministry said Norway had decided to reestablish contacts after assurances in September from the Iranian government it would not assist or reward anyone carrying out the religious fatwa, or decree, permitting the killing of Rushdie. * Iranian intellectual dies in suspicious circumstances

TEHRAN, Nov 26 (AFP) - Magid Sharif, an Iranian writer, journalist and translator close to liberal opposition circles, has died here in suspicious circumstances, it was learned here Thursday from associates and a newspaper. According to the moderate newspaper Hamshahri, the official organ of Tehran municipality, the 58-year-old Sharif "apparently died of a heart attack" on November 19. Sharif had left his home after telling his family that he was going to the eastern city of Mashhad to attend the funeral of an Iranian religious figure... FULL TEXT

TEHRAN, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Iran's police said on Wednesday it had arrested a number of suspects in the killing of a veteran opposition leader and his wife, as supporters of the dissidents called for a mass funeral. TEHRAN, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Iran has vowed to bring to justice militants who attacked a bus carrying U.S. citizens and other foreigners in Tehran last weekend, the official news agency IRNA reported. Intelligence Minister Qorbanali Dorri Najafabadi condemned the ``ugly act by unidentified assailants,'' the agency said late on Tuesday. ``Those involved in the incident will be decisively dealt with...We shall decisively counter such an ugly and disdainful act and follow it up legally,'' Najafabadi told IRNA... TEHRAN (Reuters) - Thousands of students from Iran's main Shi'ite Muslim seminaries marched Wednesday to condemn a visit last week by a group of Americans, whose bus was at one point attacked by militants, Iranian media reported. * Russia to hasten work on Iran nuclear plant-radio

TEHRAN, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Iran and Russia agreed on Tuesday to speed up construction of a nuclear power plant in the Iranian Gulf port of Bushehr, a project strongly opposed by the United States. Tehran radio said Gholamreza Aghazadeh, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, and visiting Russian Atomic Energy Minister Yevgeni Adamov signed a protocol under which ``the completion deadline of the Bushehr nuclear power plant's phase one was cut to 52 months from the contracted 55 months.''... * Iran vows to clear up murder of dissidents

TEHRAN, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Iranian authorities vowed on Monday they would not rest until they had solved the brutal killings of a veteran opposition leader and his wife in Tehran. ``The judiciary head (Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi) expressed regret over the killing of Dariush Forouhar and his wife and ordered the prompt identification and punishment of the perpetrators,'' the official news agency IRNA reported. * U.S. wants dialogue with Iran despite bus attack

WASHINGTON, Nov 23 (Reuters) - The United States still wants to encourage contacts between Iranians and Americans, despite an attack on a bus carrying 13 American tourists in Tehran, the State Department said on Monday.
