* Oil prices advance on U.S. storm worries

LONDON, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Oil prices gained on Friday on worries that a looming storm could hit U.S. oil supplies by forcing production cuts in the Gulf of Mexico, dealers said. London Brent blend crude futures for November was trading 40 cents better at $13.94 a barrel at 1645 GMT. Benchmark Brent drew strength from a tropical storm gathering in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, a major region of offshore oil and gas production supplying the world's biggest energy market... FULL TEXT

KUWAIT, Sept 17 (Reuters) - A keen Kuwaiti effort to boost world oil prices gained steam on Thursday with confirmation that fellow OPEC states Iran, United Arab Emirates and Algeria would come to the Gulf state for market analysis talks. * Key Iran official survives gunmen attack-IRNA

TEHRAN, Sept 13 (Reuters) - The head of a powerful Iranian state foundation survived an assassination attempt on Sunday, the official news agency IRNA reported. It said unknown gunmen opened fire on Mohsen Rafiqdoust from hills overlooking his office in north Tehran. Rafiqdoust, 58, heads the Bonyad-e Mostazafan va Janbazan (Foundation of the Deprived and War Disabled) which is Iran's top economic powerhouse. * Iran Risks Much With Threat To Taliban

Boston, 14 September 1998 (Radio Free Europe) - While Central Asia watches and worries, Iran may be risking its chance for business and investment as it threatens military action against Afghanistan's Taliban. If fighting erupts with the Taliban, the chance for stable routes through Iran could go by the boards. Iran has frequently cited its stability in competing for Caspian Sea pipeline routes, drawing comparisons to the troubled Caucasus. That advantage could fade quickly in the event of a war. (The Economist) - SINCE Iran's would-be liberal President Muhammad Khatami took office a year ago, he has been too busy with the political battle against conservatives to spend much time worrying about the economy. Now the statistics have made it impossible to go on like that. On August 2nd the president called for sweeping economic reforms. "Our economy is chronically ill.
