Qajar-style Persian Classical Dance Workshop
with Dr. Robyn Friend

Qajar (19th century court) Persian Classical Dance Workshop:
Introduction to Qajar (19th century Persian court) Dance with Dr. Robyn Friend: The basics of 19th Century Persian (Qajar) Court dance can be found in modern Iranian popular dance. Dr Friend will teach a workshop on fundamentals of Qajar dance, beginning with simple 20-21st century popular dance movements. She will continue on to Qajar style, using music of that era, with a discussion of costuming for this unique and feminine dance style.
Dr. Robyn Friend has been studying and teaching classical and regional dance from Iran and Central Asia for four decades.
Her 25 year’s studies of Persian classical music with an Iranian music master, the late Ostad Morteza Varzi, has given her a unique perspective on the performance of dance from the19th century Qajar court of Persia.
Dr. Friend has taught Iranians and non-Iranians alike, all over the world. This will be her first, and hopefully not the last, workshop tour in Italy.
