Houston Holds Its 25th Annual Iranian Film Festival

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston is holding its annual filmfest celebrating Iranian films. Some highlights include several films we’ve presented on The Iranian before, including Nafas (“Breath”), Disappearance, 24 Frames (the Abbas Kiarostami tribute completed by his son), and Ali Soozandeh’s Tehran Taboo, which is starting to make a few more appearances stateside—The Film Forum in NYC will be featuring it next month.

Film scholar and professor Dr. Hamid Naficy will give a lecture at Rice Cinema at the festival at the end of the month, and was himself on faculty when the festival first launched.

Additionally, six films—including Nafas, Tehran Taboo, and Sadaf Fouroughi’s coming-of-age film Ava—are being specifically highlighted for being stories that were either composed by or heavily center on Iranian women. These three films will screen on the 19th and 20th of January.
