I heard a rumor that they only serve soup in Iranian prisons. If a prisoner wants better food their family has to pay for the extra luxory prison foods.
I think it is indicating that humor could be used in any situation and that it identifies "hope". Sarcastic and smart humor also means the brain is functioning and it is healthy that is important for those imprisoned and their love ones.

The amazing thing about us Iranians is that we joke about the cruelest incidents, I guess at hardest times jokes keep our spirits high.
