Khomeyni also spoke about freedom and democracy, and Iranian people's "democratic aspirations". Did that make him democratic?
What if the likes of Mousavi and Dabashi were only charlatans who reserved a place for themselves for just in case people's "democratic aspirations" came to fruition, a place that would let them --again, like Khomeyni-- monopolize and steal that nascent democracy in favor of yet another round of Islamic fascism?
You know, Mousavi doesn't even talk about democracy... Most signs, in fact, point toward the outcome I just mentioned out of letting the likes of Mousavi and Dabashi (and all those following their line) run their game.
More, in a democracy, the likes of Mousavi would actually not even have a place to do anything -- anyone who glorifies one of the mass murderers of the last century (Khomeyni) is usually, in an honest democracy, not only barred from public service, but perhaps also put on trial.

Arj

The focus

by Arj on

Whatever Ahmadinejad's importance or extent of his authority within the current frameworks of IRI may be, he nonetheless is representaing the Islamic regime in the upcoming U.N. general assembley. At the same time, Musavi and Karubi are under house arrest for challenging the VF and defending Iranian people's democratic rights. Why does everything have to be about revenge? Yes, Musavi and Karubi were a part of the regime, so was Montazeri. But he caused Khamenei and VF more damage than any outspoken adversary of IRI inside or ouside Iran could! Moreover, if that would be the case, Montazeri should've been dismissed for having been a part of IRI, and by the same token, Reza Pahlavi should be dismissed for being associated with a regime who ignored human rights and built the infamous Evin and Gohardasht prisons and their torture chambers!

In that case, RP owes as much an apology to our nation as do Musavi and Karubi for the breach of human rights by the regimes they respectively represent. However, a democratic movment can not be monopolized by one particular political current or the other. It's a collective work of all pro-democracy parties involved. Personally, my principal disagreements aside, when any of these gentlemen does or says anything in support of the democractic aspirations of our nation, they have my support! Therefore, I do not find Ahmadinejad's condemnation objectionalbe based on who is behind it, but if and when such conedmnations become a pretext to excuse IRI's accountability in its entirety, that's when I draw the line!

Hooshang: Jet bombers did not liberate Lybians...

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

It was the massive workers uprising in Tripoli which did the job. You yourself posted a blog by prof. cole who emphasised that. However without the "jet bombers" Gaddafi would have crushed the uprising just as sure as Islamist regime did in Iran 2009.

I did emphasise my preference for a 1917 style uprising in Iran and it should be very clear at least to you my learned friend by now where my preferences are on this matter.

But let me ask you : This total "anti war" stance, if implemented towards Hitler, where would had it left tens of thousands of communists and socialists in Hitler's concenbtration camps? Were they not the members of the YCL of the soviet union under the leadership of the very same people who were part of 1917 revolution (generalismo excluded, for the records..) who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of their german comrades? Was it not the soviet Union's inaction and Nazi "air support" which greatly helped the defeat of republicans at the hands of fascists during spanish civil war? How about the "foreign interference" of international brigade on side of republicans (I know, I know they were not a military force, yet they were "foreign")

Last,  what would the rafigh in your avatar who is bravely facing the mullahs firing squad say about a missile, even delieverd from hell itself, which would blow to smethring the facsist firing squad and save his life and the life of his comrades?

I like to hear back your comments, although i'll not be responding until later until I am back home from work.

Of course HTG

by Anonymous Observer on

Is doesn't take a genius to realize that everyone is out for their own interest.  Why shouldn't they?  But we also have to deal with reality.  And the reality of the situation is that the IR has pushed us to the point of no return.  And it's not just the IR.  It's people like Dabashi who have legitimized, or at least tried to legitimize, this regime for the past 32 years.  They are looking for their own interests--or in their case, their own causes-- as well, whether it's anti-Americanism or Palestine or whatever.

My point is that IF it comes down to a situation like Libya (and I hope that it doesn't), it may not be as problematic as everyone thinks it will be.

PS- I am short on time, and didn't have the time to go on Behnevis.  So, it's in English.  Sorry!

Your idea of America is as obtuse as your idea of AN

by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on

In such an obtuseness you utterly fail to undrstand that Iran is not Germany or Japan. Introduction of foriengers in our fight will lead to disintegration and destruction of Iran, but then again what can you expect from someone who can't even write in Persian.

As far as your hypocrisy:  you just exposed yourself, in your own words, much better than anyone could have.

my questions to President Ahmadenijad:

by Tiger Lily on

Besmelahe rahmane rahim

Any thoughts on

1.Guatanomo Bay

a) what if the inmates are gay, are they there?

b)do you think they'll ever close it before all inmates and torturers come out of the closet?

2.Lands

a)What do you think about the Occupied Lands of Palestine, Afghanistan,

Libya and Iraq?

b) which country's olives do you prefer? Please, answer this question without stone-walling: I meant the pitted ones.

3. Is your hotel room comfortable enough?

a) Did you order the Persian carpet in the East Lobby yourself? Don't worry I won't tell them who santion stuff.

b) Did you like my room service maid's outfit?

And seriously, HTG, perhaps that's a good thing

by Anonymous Observer on

Not the disintegration part, but this part:

Once those jet bombers "liberate" you, they don't go away, they stick around making sure you stay "liberated."

Worked for Japan and Germany.  Why do we have to be the beret wearing anti-America lunatics of the world?  I am working on a blog on that subject.  Will be posted soon.

HTG - I still prefer Ahmadinejad over sabzollahis

by Anonymous Observer on

he has done many good things (in comparison to the sabzollahis), the least of which is the unprecedented move in Iran's history to allow open and no holds barred presidential debates which none of the "green" (color of baby poop, mind you :-)) presidents (Khatami) would ever subjected thmeselves to.  That move alone has set a precedent in Iran.  Now, everyone expects presidential debates.

And yes, I liked, and still like, his praise and acknowledgement of Iran's pre-Islam history, which has been a taboo subject under 32 years of mullacracy.

Unlike the opportunist Dabashi, I have been consistent in my position.

wheh he merely suggested to hold an event in Perspolis?

Were all those nodes of approval and "conditional" support, just winks at an "stranger," or you really meant it?

RG: Libyan "model" is actually theYogoslavian "model." There will no country left in any of these "models,"  watch and see what will happen in Libya. Not a pretty picture. Once those jet bombers "liberate" you, they don't go away, they stick around making sure you stay "liberated."

Dabashi criticizing Ahmadinejad - very funny!

by Anonymous Observer on

This is what he said about Bollinger's criticism of Ahmadinejad:

Following Columbia University President Lee Bollinger's statements on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia in September 2007 (in which Bollinger stated that the Iranian President was a "petty and cruel dictator" who lacked the "intellectual courage" to offer real answers on denying the Holocaust) Dabashi wrote that Bollinger's statements were "the most ridiculous clichés of the neocon propaganda machinery, wrapped in the missionary position of a white racist supremacist carrying the heavy burden of civilizing the world." Dabashi further stated that Bollinger's comments were "propaganda warfare … waged by the self-proclaimed moral authority of the United States" and that "Only Lee Bollinger's mind-numbing racism when introducing Ahmadinejad could have made the demagogue look like the innocent bystander in a self-promotional circus." In addition, Dabashi wrote that when Bollinger made these comments, "Nothing short of the devil incarnate, the Christian Fundamentalist in Bollinger thought, was sitting in front of him" and that Bollinger's "shamelessly racist" comments were "replete with racism."[32][33]

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamid_Dabashi#Criticism_of_Lee_Bollinger.27s_Comments_on_Ahmadinejad_and_Allegations_of_White_Supremacy

I wonder if Dabashi has ever apologized to Mr. Bollinger for this verbal assault.  Does anydoby know? Anybody?  Anybody?

I think that Dabashi has all of a sudden become a Iran human rights champion so that the tsunami that he is talking about at the end of the clip doesn't sweep him under also.  He's trying to remain relevant by being the ultimate example of hezb-e-baad!

Constitutions are

by Simorgh5555 on

Constitutions are established and abolishee. However, what makes this regime particularly illegitimate is its wicked nature. Whether Hitler was elected and obtained emergency powers legitimately is a moot.point for historians, and therefore historians like Lon Fuller would argue that a regime so abhorrent such as the IR was illegal due to its immorality. True, a regime which is established by way of a coup or a revolution may very well be illegal to start off with but during the course of time will become legally valid when people conform to the news laws which is what Hans Kelsen believed. Even a die hard constitutionalist would find it hard to argue that the US or French republics, though established unconstitutionally are illegal.
The issue of whether this despicable regime is constitutional or otherwise is no longer relevant in my opinion. Its wicked despotic nature is enough justification for its removal.

On Rahbar & all his Bitches & "regime implosion"....

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

Indeed this "Rahbar & his Bitch" carefully orchestrated Charade, which has been going on since the begining of islamist regime to this date has many purposes. From making the fascist regime look like a "Democracy", to "blaming the other guy", per ministry malijak's comment here about "mousavi having nothing to do with mass execution of Iranian prisoners" (jal al khaalegh!!!).

The key purpose of this "Rahbar & Bitch" Charade is to give the opposition to Islamist regime the impression that if we wait long enough the islamist regime would simply "implode" due to internal contradictions. This is what the Karl Marx looking Prof here actually predicted last year.

Wrong! Regime will never go by implosion. It will only go by Explosion. Either "Lybian 2011 style" or "Russia 1917 style". I'd very much  prefer the latter, but am happy with either.

Ahmadi is more irrelevant and inconsequential today than he has ever been. He is not in control of his cabinet and the governance of Iran. As usual, he will defer all questions regarding torture and detention to the Regime's judiciary. He can’t even make a credible statement about the release of the jailed hikers.

In a nutshell, Ahmadi is Rahbar’s bitch, quietly serving the last two years of his sentence!

AMIR1973

For one's consideration

by AMIR1973 on

1) Mousavi has defended the mass executions of 1988 in an interview

2) When Emam was alive, he tended to side with prime minister Mousavi's "Islamic left" faction in their squabbles with president Khamenei's "Islamic right" faction, i.e. Mousavi was not sidelined as long as Emam was alive

3) Emam was the individual most responsible for the IRI's crimes from 1979-1989; however, Mousavi continues to be fanatically devoted to his Emam to this very day

Parham

Another way of looking at it is...

by Parham on

... that Dabbashi only seems to care about the "Islamic" detainees and not the others. Pay attention...

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

Just a Q:

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

How much power did Mousavi actually have when he was PM? Did he oversee the executions. Was he able to grant pardons. I don't know and would like to know. For exaample I did some research on USA.

President does not have the authority to prevent state executions. So Obama while president is unable to stop a pending execution in Georgia. How much power did Mousavi have and how did he use it.

I am not an "IRI groupie". I just want to know if we are blaming the right person. Next is Karroubi. How much power did he ever have. What did he do and was he responsible for any torture or deaths. If so how; why and when.

AMIR1973

That's so "Stalin"esque

by AMIR1973 on

Despite the denials of West-residing Stalinist IRI Groupies, it is a fact that many thousands of Iranian men, women, and children were executed by the IRI when Mousavi was the IRI's prime minister.

by پندارنیک on

There is no proof that "under his administration[ which implies one's authority over a historical  matter] Iranian men, women and children were tortured, some raped and thousands summarily executed"

You shouldn't try to  validate a lie, or a mere allegation, by relentless repetition..........that's so "Goebbels"ish.

Fred

Mir-Hussein Mousavi Khamene

by Fred on

It is great that Hadi Ghaemi’s “International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran” is spotlighting the utter hypocrisy of the American media in not asking the right and tough questions from the show president of the Islamist Rapist Republic. Kudos to ICH.

However, it seems ICH and Hadi Ghaemi and that Dabashi character who speak of the “Imprisoned Presidential candidate in Iran” practice a bit of hypocrisy as well.

The “presidential candidate” they refer to, Mir-Hussein Mousavi Khamene, the cousin of the Supreme Islamist Rapist Khamenei, was the former Prime Minister of IRR, and under his administration Iranian men, women and children were tortured, some raped and thousands summarily executed.

Nothing is expected of that demagogue Dabashi, but, how come Gahemi and his outfit fail to mention that little bit of info about Mousavi Khamene?
