Yes, I agree with your comments, in a perfect and ideal world the impressionable youth should learn the value system from their parents but how realistic is that my dear reader?? We can't be idealistic and dreamy. The reality of the situation is that young people (remember when you were a teenager yourself) are easily influenced by society and the media.  Iranian youth is already confused and what Golshifteh has done is to give the seal of approval to all those girls who are into prostitution, drugs and so on... The next thing you know, these girls will be turning around to tell their parents, Golshifteh Farahani has done worse by going public at least we do it behind closed doors!! Do you see where I am coming from?

Sir, people are responsible for their own acts. Nobody owes you anything get it in your head. The problem with you Muslims is you are always "talabkar". You think others owe you respect. But your show them none. You come to the West; then call them uncivilized.

This is not CIVILISATION!

Shame on her for poisoning the minds of young people!

Great, move to a civilized place nobody is in your way. May I suggest Saudi Arabia or an Islamic nation. Islamic Republic may be too liberal so don't bother.

The young and the impressionable youth should learn their value system at home and from their parents, and not from the movie stars.

Do Americans go around and blame Madonna, Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan for their shortcomings?

Public figures hold a position of responsibility

by EastMeetsWest on

Further to my previous email and in response to "the Veiled Prophet of Khorassan", I would like to add that public figures hold a position of responsibility and are not the same as unknown individuals taking their clothes off on the beach.  There are millions of young and impressionable Iranian teenage girls who look up to celebrities such as Golshifteh and see her as a role model.  If she was an ordinary individual, what she did would have been her business but by taking such a bold action, she has just shown how irresponsible she has been.  There will be a lot of teenage girls only too eager to follow in her footsteps and how is that sort of thing going to shape our already dysfunctional society?  Please think deep and stop making shallow comments because this is not funny at all and the consequences are very grave indeed! This is not CIVILISATION! Shame on her for poisoning the minds of young people!

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards God, that ye may attain Bliss.

Quote: 'Iran will not be free until people get idea of leaving people alone'

Jeez, we're IRANIAN.  We're always in each other's business!!!  The point is,, it's not like there are THOUSANDS of famous Iranian actresses well-known in the West.  In fact, I can name only TWO-Ms Farahani and Ms Aghdashloo.  Therefore what a bleeding SHAME that of one of this 2, rather than celebrating what makes her different from all the tit-revealing actresses, decides to become a tit-revealing actress herself.  I don't even know why I'm talking about it-she just wants the publicity.  Bit like Jordan.

expat

Personally speaking..

by expat on

..Am ashamed that she has resorted to doing what every cheap 2-bit actress needs to do to raise their profile.  I really thought she was better than that but clearly not.  Any it's NOTHING to do with politics, religion, 'art', the oppression of Iranian women etc etc-it's fo' da dolla' baby...

WOW VPK cool off

by amirkabear4u on

First thing is first;

Is it difficult for your brain to agree to something I say or someone else says. You know some people and I know some other people. You do not need to tell me what knid of person I am lets see what kind of person you are. Everyone has agree to you to be reasonable. Also if you did read my comment carfully I never said she knows me.

Secondly this is the last time you call me an islamists. Is it too difficult for your narrow minded personality to remember this? Just because someone says something out of the blue he/she has to be an islamist. I am so glad I have not converted to a blind royalist like you have.

I think you are very confused. At least my comment has nothing to do with islam. It was a personal experience. Also what Varjavand is saying makes sense but you have a problem with that too.

FINALLY, WHAT SORT OF PERSON CALLS HIMSELF VEILED PROPHET?

Faramarz

Dear VPK

by Faramarz on

This bold act by Golshifteh reminds me of the time when Iranian women started to have pre-marital sex (not just with their husbands-to-be, but with their boyfriends.)

At the time, having sex before marriage was frowned upon and was reserved only for men, but over time people got over it and moved on.

So this one will pass too.

I wish her the best in her career. It is not easy to come to the west and try to break into the art scene. It is extremely competitive.

Maybe because I know her.

She was the type of female if she wanted to get something important done and needed a lot of money.

Wow! Glad that you know her; and so much about her mind. Are you a mind reader as well? Or did she confide her inner thoughts to you.

You want me to start writing about what kind of person you are? Just pull it from nowhere and make up things. Sorry I do not make up things I don't know.

Boy this sure got Islamists all riled up for what: half a breast! Why don't you people go to a beach once in a while; might show you a few things.

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

Dear Varjavand

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

You are very welcomed by me to be a conservative. But Golshifteh is not out there to please you or me. I am just not getting this across to people. Why do you think she owes you or must care what you or I want.

It is not her responsibility to time her actions to fit your approval. Maybe you don't think nudity is a good way. How about her opinion or are women "half a man" as Islam says.

By God let people decide for themselves what to do. Iran will not be free until people get idea of leaving people alone. The world does not revolve around Islam. People belong to themselves not Islam. Do not tell others how to be. Or morality police.

varjavand

From my perspective, and

by varjavand on

From my perspective, and given the circumstances, her decision to pose nude shows a poor judgment on her part; nudity was not the best way to express her outrage over censorship if that was her intended purpose. No one cuts one of his legs to lose weight.
People usually resort to extreme but calculated measures like that for fame and gain rather than voicing a concern or supporting a cause. She is a celebrity and possibly a role model to thousands of young Iranians who may look up to her. I don’t think her action sends any positive message to them.
I may sounds like an old-fashioned conservative, but there are certain values you cannot compromise.

amirkabear4u

OK everyone don't waste your time and effort

on her. As I said before I am not surprised from her action.

Maybe because I know her.

She was the type of female if she wanted to get something important done and needed a lot of money. She did not have to pay, she would be happy to a secret 'seageh' with IRI personnel. There are people like that in Iran you know.

Her action has nothing to do with being in the west or because of IRI.

Dear Eastmeetswest: you do not have to understand her motives. Do you get it it not your business! Why do many IC readers think she needs their approval. Maybe she did it because she felt like it. Does everything have to be for a reason you want? Her actions are legal; normal; and accepted in Western artist world. She is not there to please a group of traditional Islamic Iranians. Now please realize the world does not revolve around traditional Iranian Islam.

No she has not been taken advantage of. I know Islam tells you women are idiots to be protected. That they lack the mind to think for themselves. But I have news for you. In reality women think for themselves and do not need protection. Did you think maybe she decided with full awareness to do this. Maybe it is Islamic men who are being taken advantage of? Maybe it is Islam that has rotted minds to a point they are not able to think. Or to realize women are humans with a mind. As for "temple of whatever": have you gone to beach recently? I have seen more temples than I would on a trip to Ancient Greece! None of the women seemed harmed or to give a *** about it. Only those obsessed with it would mind.

Regarding many posts: I find them childish and silly. It feels like people are so uncomfortable they need to make jokes. Or voice their discomfort in one way or other: remember it is not about you!

EastMeetsWest

Whatever next? Professional actress or glamour model?

by EastMeetsWest on

Whilst I respect everybody's views and opinions, I do not believe for one moment that it was a good idea for this young actress to go nude.  I have been trying to underestand why she would have done this and indeed who in their right mind would do such a thing.  If her motives were to help the young people in Iran, surely, this would have made matters worse because knowing the type of hooligans it is targetted at, they would no doubt exert more aggression towards women and will take this out on them.  How is this going to assist the women who are inside jails being raped and beaten to death and those oppressed women imprisoned in their own country who face both social and domestic violence every day. She really needs to change her PR guru.  She has clearly been given the wrong advice and the way I see it, she has been used and taken advantage of by someone who has their own ulterior motives.  This was a very very silly thing to do in the name of freedom and she will one day regret it dreadfully.  Apart from all the above, on a more personal level, she has been sharing her sacred temple with the whole world!  I am not impressed and I truly feel sorry for her!

All of them! LOL!

Btw, Vildemose, I'd be more concerned about stalkers and other weirdos, safety-wise I mean.

P.S. What would be interesting for me, would be the reaction of the average Bible-belt American. I wonder if politicizing the nipple, in this context, would make a difference.

P.P.S. seconding this comment of mine too.
